When to reflect
What type of reflective activity would have helped Abid?
Click on the method(s) of reflection, based on the principles outlined by Schon, that would be most useful to develop Abid's practice. Then select the other answers to understand why they are not appropriate in this case.
Reflection before action
Reflecting before action would have been useful had Abid thought about what is important to do in each session. He was fairly new to the class, but he could have made a note of the key tasks and ensured he allowed enough time for the learners to complete them all.
Reflection in action
Reflecting in action could be useful here in order to 'save the day'. Abid did do this, but it was a bit late and a few of the learners were disappointed at the end because they didn't get to do the time line. He should have reviewed the session and checked his watch more often to make sure the pace was appropriate to the learners.
Reflection on action
Reflecting on action is going to be the most effective strategy for Abid to develop here concerning the use and implementation of DARTs and other reading activities, as well as trying to plan the timing of activities more sensitively.
